2009 SASHA BELLA FUND FUN-DAY FOR SICKKIDS AND BLOORVIEW KIDS REHAB

The third Sasha Bella Fund fundraiser will be our biggest and best yet! The event is indoors in the beautiful Wychwood Barns so we will not be effected by weather. It is a fun day for families with a short reflective walk around the barns where we often strolled Sasha. This is followed by 3 hours of live entertainment, really yummy food, activities for all ages and an exciting silent auction. For the first time, SickKids Foundation has allowed us to donate a portion of funds to Bloorview Kids Rehab where many SickKids children are also supported.

Goals of the Fund

The Sasha Bella Fund honors Sasha, the staff who helped her, and other kids and families by focusing on communication. Did you know that conversations are the most common proceedure in any hospital? The Fund focuses on communication between family and staff and among staff teams. Parents can be exhausted, scared, grieving and often traumatized and good communication is as vital as the best equipment and most experienced staff. Communication should be timely, transparent, respectful of family wishes and traditions, coordinated and collaborative. Good communication improves health outcomes, patient safety and family and staff satisfaction rates. In addition to supporting family-centred and interprofessional communication, the Fund has set up a fund for palliative research, a music group, grants for murals and awards, education and family councils.
